I started preparing drawings of locomotives of the NSW Railways in 1970, when there was little information about the NSW Railways, especially by way of drawings, readily available to modellers and enthusiasts. My drawings were initially prepared by hand; pen and ink on film, to be reduced and offset printed. Later I also started to produce drawings of the NSWGR buildings, structures, and infrastructure as well as the locomotives.

The development of computers, CAD, and high quality printers allowed me, from 1997, to produce more accurate drawings and to print them on demand. It also keeps the ink off my fingers. I've subsequently scanned the hand drawn sheets so that I can print these also as demand requires. The sheets are printed on good quality A3 sized paper, generally to a scale of 1:87 to suit modellers.

Copies of the drawings may be obtained through a number of model railway retailers as listed (see AVAILABILITY), or from myself directly.

I am indebted to numerous sources who have assisted me in collecting the resource material from which I prepare the drawings. In particular the former Archives Section of the NSW Government Railways Department, and John Forsyth, the archivist who oversaw the collection of this material. The archive has now been relocated to the NSW State Records office. I also owe much to the many researchers and photographers who have published their work, to the NSW Railways Historical Society which promotes this research, and to many individuals who have generously assisted me with their knowledge, comments, requests and access to their research material.
